A Christmas without cards

Merry Christmas and a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year for 2025. In this 2024 Christmas season, we will need to blend some legacy technology, like the telephone, with some information technology like the web and e-mail to do what I have enjoyed doing through the decades: sending a personal thought in my own handwriting to the several dozen people I like to keep greet in this traditional way every year.

Summer 2023

The Canada Day 2023 holiday weather was warm and not too humid! The world is mostly back to normal, with parks and playgrounds seeing friends and neighbours back together in person. Andrea and I attended our first post-pandemic play at the Shaw Festival ('Gypsy') in August. It felt great to be back among groups of people and enjoying ourselves doing things we like in places we enjoy again....

Merlin: 2003-2023

The big, handsome, good-natured white cat that accompanied me on so very many public events and personal adventures has returned to his maker. Merlin passed away at mid-day on January 13, his Mummy and Daddy with him, and his head in his Daddy's hand at the very end. He was 13 days short of what would have been his 20th birthday on January 26....

Thoughts on leaving party politics

After reflecting on my own wishes and aspirations within the Ontario Liberal Party, and for the northwest Mississauga community I served for 15 years in the Ontario Legislature, I chose not to stand again for nomination as the Ontario Liberal Party’s candidate in Mississauga-Streetsville.
