Finding a link to Hansard
As your MPP, I am active on behalf of western Mississauga during debates in the Legislature.
The list of my contributions is one of the longest and most extensive of any Member of
Provincial Parliament.
See a list on the
Ontario Legislative Assembly web site.
Blogs, articles and speeches
On many speaking occasions, my remarks are not delivered from prepared notes.
On some occasions, however, I have either done a written draft of my remarks, or
they are recorded and transcribed before being reproduced here. And blogs are so
very, very 21st-century! So here is where you'll find my thoughts, speeches,
articles and, yes, blogs. I will add to it as often as I can, with my own thoughts,
and sometimes those of others.

How and when to toast the LCBO savings
- One of the dangers of getting your information from either talk radio or shrill
columnists is that it is usually wrong. Price changes (or lack of them) at the LCBO
with the July 1, 2010 implementation of the HST is a prime example. If people ask you,
give them the truth with this article from the Mississauga Taxpayer Yahoo! Group.

recovery to prosperity.

Exploding some of the egregious myths and falsehoods about the HST and tax reform
- On June 30, 2010, at the stroke of midnight, an Ontario cold-war relic vanished. The
Provincial Sales Tax, an expensive, outdated, cumbersome, wasteful, stupid way to
tax consumption was replaced with a more modern,
value-added tax. Read about the myths and misconceptions.
- January 2010 assignment to the Ministry of Revenue
- In late January, I got a change of assignment and a new Minister who is also
my old Minister. Revenue Minister John Wilkinson and I worked together at the
Ministry of Research and Innvovation, and we are now teamd up again at the Ministry
of Revenue. Job #1: explaining the comprehensive package of tax cuts and sales tax
harmonization that is coming into effect this year.

Address to the Ontario Legislature on Senate reform
- Every now and then, an MPP gets the chance to say the kind of thing you'd normally say
among the patrons of a coffee shop in the Legislature. The November 5, 2009 debate on
Senate Reform was one such opportunity. Here's what I had to say!

Why to reject the Half the Story Tories

Speaking about innovation to managers of science centres worldwide
- Ever wonder what the people at the Ontario Science Centre do to find a peer group?
Me too. I got to speak to them in June, 2008. For the first time, the World Science
Centre Congress met in North America. Some 400 science centre managers met in
Toronto, and I brought them a brief greeting on behalf of the Government of Ontario.

The continuum of tradition for 845 Avro Arrow Squadron Cadets

- Mixed Member Proportional = more politics and less governing
- What if somebody said you would get better government if you paid more attention
to the parties that lost the election? That is exactly what the
referendum question on the ballot this fall will ask you to do. Here is why
I recommend voting a decisive "No!".

- The
NDP loves to spend other people's money: a minimum wage reality check
- Let's think about this proposal before we rush out and spend other
people's money. A $10 minimum wage really means much more than a two-dollar
hourly raise for a few workers at the low end of the scale. But then, that's
the part the NDP doesn't like to talk about.
- Ontario's renaissance in post-secondary
education
- The province fulfilled a 2003 campaign promise to freeze tuitions for
two years while re-thinking its approach to the funding of post-secondary
education. Perhaps the province's greatest competitive advantage is the
entrepreneurial drive, the creativity and the hard work of its best and
brightest, The 2005 Ontario Budget began a process of investing some $6.2
billion into post-secondary education, Ontario's greatest single commitment
in the last two generations. Here is the difference that investment has made
so far.

their tax revenue working for them right here.
